Test Bakelite easily with Simichrome polish. Simply rub a small amount of cream on an area of the test piece and wipe if off with a tissue. You can also rub some on a Q-tip, then on the item. If it turns light yellow to dark yellow, it's Bakelite. This is easy to carry around and won't leak like 409.

There are different formulas for Bakelite and not all Bakelite reacts to all kinds of tests. It's best to use a second test, like a black light. We sell mini black lights so you can be certain.
